To find a strong gene pool to begin our maternal line, Broadwaters Rattery began work by sourcing four 'believed to be' unrelated foundation pairs. Work commenced breeding each pair, retaining two daughters and sourcing an unrelated buck per generation. The process continued for four years and 5 generations until the healthiest and longest lived Line could be selected. At which point, other breeders were invited into the programme to take foundation females from Generation 6.
To acknowledge their contribution to the project, here are rats who didn't make selection. The list continues to grow when sisters are kept and one is selected to move forward (making the Registry) and the other contributes a litter but there are no keepers who stay in the project.
You can also find a list of Broadwaters Rats who cannot be found in the main Registry but who have created an 'insurance line' known as Line B. All of these rats are based at the Hub rattery (Broadwaters). Click HERE to see 'Line B' Broadwaters Rats.
